The Ohio Dermatological Association is actively engaged in several critical legislative and regulatory efforts that directly impact dermatologists across Ohio. This includes:

  • Ongoing advocacy around insurance-related legislation (please see the list below of bills the ODA along with the coalition are fighting).
  • The ODA, along with a coalition of groups and the OSMA continue to speak with legislators about how insurance reform is needed in the state of Ohio to help protect our patients as well as our practices.
  • The ODA continues to address the proposed statewide ban on tanning.
  • We are working closely with the Ohio Board of Pharmacy to find common ground on TDD regulations.
  • In addition, we continue to fight scope-of-practice bills that would allow physician assistants to change their professional title and expand pharmacists’ ability to diagnose and treat skin conditions—changes that could significantly affect the practice of dermatology in our state.

We hold an Advocacy Day each May to meet with legislators to directly speak to them about these issues. This year’s advocacy day will be held Wednesday, May 20th in Columbus, OH. If you are interested in participating, please contact Jill Hostetler at odaexec@ohderm.org.
