The AAD recently posted their AADA Advocacy Update and recognized the hard work and efforts of the ODA which resulted in the important changes to the state’s compounding requirements.
Ohio dermatology advocacy results in changes to compounding requirements
A five-year advocacy effort of the Ohio Dermatological Association (ODA), supported by the AADA, has resulted in important changes to the state’s compounding requirements. The Ohio Board of Pharmacy recently extended the compounding immediate-use requirement, allowing physicians to prepare buffered lidocaine twelve hours prior to administration, and six hours prior for all other sterile compounding.
What we did: The Ohio Board of Pharmacy’s initial proposal was one hour. AADA and ODA advocacy efforts included discussions with the Board and multiple comment letters during the five-year effort.
Keep in mind: Ohio has been a bellwether for compounding regulation and has held one of the most restrictive compounding rules on the books, so other states will be watching.
