On October 26, 2018, the Board of Directors of the American Board of Medical Specialties approved the creation of Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery as a subspecialty of dermatology. Efforts to establish this certification had begun 30 years previously, and were spearheaded by the American College of Mohs Surgery. The first exam for the inaugural American Board of Dermatology Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Examination will be October 4th, 2021. This exam is for those individuals who meet criteria to sit for the examination and passage will give Board Certification status in Micrographic Dermatologic Surgery.
The ODA would like to recognize and congratulate Dr. David Carr who will be sitting for this inaugural examination. Dr. Carr is a current ODA Board Member and is an Associate Professor in the Division of Dermatology at The Ohio State University (OSU), where he has worked since 2011. He is also the Director of the Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology Fellowship and Director of Dermatologic Surgery at OSU. We wish Dr. Carr and all ODA members who plan to sit for this examination the best of luck!
